Something strange has been happening around Mesilla for more than a century.

In 1936, Sheriff Tomas Ortega disappeared after secretly investigating strange marks and unexplained events in the desert.

His notes led to a mysterious explorer named Captain Voss—and to something Ortega called The Old Desert.

Decades later, documents, photographs, recordings and film are raising the same questions again.

WHAT DID ORTEGA FIND?

WHO WAS CAPTAIN VOSS?

AND WHAT WAS THE OLD DESERT?

Follow the investigation. Examine the evidence. Decide what you believe.

What is TMF?

Our Story

The Mesilla Files (TMF) is an original storytelling universe where history, mystery, adventure, and imagination unite in an ongoing investigation.

Primarily set in the deserts and mountains of the American Southwest, TMF follows the work of the TRC Research Center, CTA (Citizens for the Truth About Aliens), and a growing ensemble of investigators, historians, field researchers, and unforgettable characters as they seek answers to age-old unsolved mysteries.

As you explore the site, you'll discover:

WHAT'S NEW IN THE MESILLA FILES?

The investigation is expanding—and the questions are getting bigger.

New material is being added regularly to The Mesilla Files as TRC researchers examine recently uncovered documents, revisit old mysteries, and follow new leads stretching from Mesilla into the surrounding desert—and beyond.

Among the latest developments:

🔒  NEW — TMF SUBSCRIBER PUBLICATIONS
There’s more happening inside The Mesilla Files than ever before.

Throughout the week, subscribers can follow the investigation through Dylan’s Flash, TRC Field Bulletins, Historical Bulletins, Art Unveilings, Mercer’s Journal, and the TMF Update—plus occasional Special Bulletins when something simply can’t wait.

Most complete publications are available only to TMF email subscribers.

❌ Why Is Mesilla at the Center of the X?
Four locations. Two in New Mexico. Two in Mexico. Connect them and Mesilla sits near the center. Coincidence, ancient connection—or something else entirely?

📁 New Archive Sessions & TRC Research
Elena Vargas and other TMF researchers continue examining the evidence, while new TRC analyses are challenging some long-held assumptions about Mesilla and the surrounding region.

There is much more under investigation.

Explore the latest releases. Follow the evidence. And draw your own conclusions.

The files are open. The investigation continues.

Top Secret - The TOX Disclosures

We've begun releasing material from the massive collection of documents recently uncovered in the TOX archive.

Some of this material is difficult to explain. Some of it raises serious questions about authenticity. And some of it may change what we thought we knew about the Mesilla Files.

We've decided you should have the opportunity to see it and decide for yourself.

The X

“Someone drew an enormous X across New Mexico and Mexico. Mesilla is almost exactly in the middle.”
