What is TMF?

The Mesilla Files (TMF) is an ongoing fictional investigation into the mysteries, legends, strange events, and unexplained history surrounding Mesilla, New Mexico, and the vast desert beyond. Through recovered documents, recordings, maps, research reports, character histories, and newly uncovered archives, TMF follows generations of people who encountered things they could not explain—and sometimes wished they had never discovered.

At the center of TMF is a simple idea: What if the old stories weren't just stories? Researchers at the TRC Research Center examine everything from Sheriff Tomas Ortega's mysterious disappearance and Captain Voss's questionable past to strange desert symbols, ancient discoveries, the TOX archives, and possible connections extending far beyond Mesilla. Some evidence appears convincing. Some is questionable. Some may be completely false. We present the files, explore the possibilities, and invite you to decide for yourself what you believe.

Meet the Mystery

It begins in Mesilla, New Mexico—a small historic community surrounded by desert, mountains, and generations of stories. Over the years, reports have described strange lights in the night sky, unexplained markings in the sand, mysterious disappearances, unusual creatures, and people who claimed the desert contained secrets far older than anyone imagined. Most of those stories were dismissed as folklore, exaggeration, or the product of too many drinks in a Mesilla bar. But then the documents began to surface.

Old sheriff's notes, private letters, maps, recordings, research reports, photographs, and the massive TOX archive suggest that people separated by decades may have been encountering pieces of the same mystery. Sheriff Tomas Ortega investigated strange activity beyond the town. Father Miguel Serrano recorded things he couldn't explain. Lawrence Jackson became frightened by Captain Voss and his mysterious background. Modern researchers are now uncovering connections extending from Mesilla deep into the desert—and even across the border into Mexico. Are these unrelated stories that have grown into legend, or fragments of something much larger? That's the mystery at the heart of The Mesilla Files.
